LEATHER WEAR & PRODUCT CARE

  • Part of the OMARI allure is the natural look of the leather.  Inexpensive leather has the color “painted”  on its top surface to hide wrinkles, scratches, and defects.  If you look at the exposed edges, you may see that the middle or back of the leather is a different color than the top. This allows lower grades of leather to enter the garment, lowering the cost and ultimately shortening the life because of paint flakes and cracks.  You can feel the stiffness of the paint.

OMARI leather is colored and preserved in a process called drum dying.  The leather is put in a barrel with the color and the water-repellent / stain-resistant treatment and tumbled for hours until the color and protective matrix are distributed throughout the leather from top to bottom.  We must start with beautifully smooth, blemish-free skins because we don’t put paint on top.  Each OMARI piece takes the dye differently and has its character. Unique, natural  “beauty marks” are part of the charm that makes every garment one of a kind.  That’s also why our leather feels so buttery soft, has better stretch and recovery, and is so light.

Other leather dries out over time, and manufacturers may recommend regular cleaning or applying oils or creams to keep their leather soft or maintain water-repellency. OMARI is different. We put protection all the way through the leather, and it stays there, soft and water-repellent, without needing any oil or cream. Ever.

  • OMARI pieces are meant to last multiple lifetimes with proper use and care. Our genuine leather active outerwear garments are water-repellent, breathable, stain-resistant, and scuff-resistant. These properties are permanent; the leather and suede never have to be re-treated. Over time, OMARI becomes more comfortable as the leather molds itself to your body.

  • Water will not penetrate through your OMARI garment; however, the leather may absorb a small amount of water. After a day on the slopes, wipe off any visible water with a towel and hang your OMARI away from direct heat.  It will dry in a few hours or overnight.  We do not recommend putting your OMARI in a clothes dryer or using a hair dryer to speed up the drying process.  Do not use a clothes iron on OMARI leather.

  • Wear your OMARI with confidence in the snow and rain. Our skiwear and outerwear pieces have Primaloft insulation, designed to keep you warm in freezing temperatures, and the inner lining materials are waterproof/breathable to stop fluid from penetrating while allowing perspiration to escape, which helps regulate the temperature inside.  Many of the pieces have venting zippers at the crotch or underarms, all the hoods are removable, and the fur trim on the hoods is also removable.  The sleeves of our skiwear all have inner spandex cuffs with thumb loops to seal out snow and wind. Waists and pants cuffs have powder skirts.  All are designed to be as functional as they are stylish.

Leather Wear Care & Process

  • OMARI leather creations are hand-made.  A skilled artist sorts a batch of skins to get the best match of thickness, color, and grain.  Bigger, thicker pieces are needed for front and back panels, and thinner, more flexible pieces are needed for sleeves and sides where extra stretch is desirable. The pattern pieces are cut by hand, then folded and hammered, shaved and feathered, backed with reinforcement to accept hardware, and stiffened to take permanent folds at collars.

  • Every stitch has to be perfect in leather clothing because, unlike with woven fabric cloth, it is impossible to re-work a seam in a leather garment; The needle leaves permanent holes.  For this reason, only the most experienced craftsmen and women make OMARI garments.  They take more time to ensure perfection.  A typical garment factory is monitored by how many pieces a sewer can produce in an hour or a day.  OMARI counts how many days it takes to make one garment.

Stitching & Handmade Qualities

Cleaning Care

  • For overall cleaning, if you desire, your OMARI garment can be dry cleaned by a professional who offers leather and suede service.  This cleaning will not damage the water-repellent treatment.  Or you can clean your garment at home.  Dip a microfiber or soft cotton cloth into a weak mixture of warm water and very mild liquid dish detergent.  Wring out most of the solution and gently wipe your garment with it.  Don’t scrub or lather up the soap.  Immediately blot any liquid off the garment with a bath towel, and then hang it to dry completely.

  • You can spot-clean your OMARI.  Light marks or soil can be wiped away with a soft cloth - microfiber and warm water with a mild soap or leather cleaner is best.  Test on an inside panel first. Blot gently or wipe lightly.  Do not press hard, and do not scrub back and forth.

  • Oily substances can stain or sink into any fabric. The best way to deal with them is to immediately blot up any excess and then draw out as much as possible with baking soda or cornstarch. Sprinkle the powder on the spot and gently tap it down into the fabric with a washcloth. Wait a few hours and wipe it off.

  • Sharp metal will scratch or cut leather, so don’t hold or carry your skis with the edges resting directly on your OMARI.  Ski Pants have reinforced ankle panels to prevent damage.  If you do get a scratch or cut on a leather panel at the inner ankle, the panel can be replaced.  Please see our “Warranty” for more information.
